Safari 2.0
Don’t get us wrong - your safari experiences will be the highlight of your trip. But kids (and even us adults) can get a bit restless at times. We’ve built a wide array of non-safari activities to keep everyone in the family busy and entertained.
Eat. Eat again. And again.
Our chef has been feeding families on safari for years now. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks for all ages - he has it all covered. You don’t have to lift a finger (if you like to cook however, we have a full kitchen for you to do that too!).
Full board guests can select from our carefully designed menu. Self-catering guests can work with the chef to create whatever meals they bring the ingredients for. Either way, our goal is to get you to leave a bit more full than when you came.
Watch a show - outside!
We’ve avoided the traditional TV - but instead built you an outdoor theater. Enjoy movies and TV shows projected from our Apple TV onto a big screen on our veranda, overlooking the Mara River. Hippo watch while enjoying the latest blockbuster.
(Extremely) remote work
Yes, The Spinney is truly remote. Luckily, we have very fast and reliable internet. Work, stream shows - whatever you needs our system can handle it.
Go for a hike
Enjoy a guided hike up Mt. Kileleoni, the highest point in the Mara ecosystem (approximately 2,100 meters). From the top, visitors are treated to incredible panoramic views of the Mara. The base of the Mt. Kileleoni is only about 15 minutes from The Spinney. Not recommended for children under the age of eight. Extra guiding charges apply.
Play lawn games
Between our pool and the Mara River edge, sits a great big green lawn, perfect for a game of soccer, cornhole, life-size Jenga, badminton - whatever you and your family are into. We keep a stock of games to keep the whole family entertained.
Learn how bead Maasai jewelry
Just five minutes from The Spinney lies the Mara Training Centre, where local Maasai tribeswomen will teach you and your family how to bead Maasai bracelets and necklaces. Beadwork embodies Maasai culture, representing strength and beauty. Extra fees apply.
Cool down with a swim
The Mara gets hot! Cool off in our pool to start your day, end your day or take a dip between game drives. Well, we’ve installed a system that runs our pool water into black coils that sit on our roof, using the sun’s power to warm the pool.
Chill at our firepit
Nothing beats ending the day sitting around a camp fire, overlooking the Mara River with the sun setting behind yellow acacia trees in the distance. Roasted marshmallows for all!
Treat yourself to a massage
Muscles sore from bumping around in a safari car? We have a lovely masseuse on call. Organize in advance and extra fees apply.
Cricket anyone?
Located within Naretoi (minutes from The Spinney), the cricket pitch is a large field to run around, play soccer, football or even cricket!
